Happy April Fool's Day, 2017!
April 1, of each year is widely known as April Fool's Day. A day reknown for for practical jokes, pranks and hoaxes. A frivolous date that seems to go on forever. Not a single country has April Fool's Day as a national holiday. I find this surprising as many nations are led by the biggest fools of all!
Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales contain the first recorded association in the English language and this dates from the year, 1392. Prior to that reference, there is no documented connection between this date, April 1, and foolishness.
Mr. Chaucer's Canterbury Tales is a collection of fiction that provides us with insight into the lives of pre-Elizabethan England. In his chapter, The Nun's Priest's Tale, he entertains us with how the vain and foolish rooster, Chanticleer, is outsmarted by the wily, old fox, Reynard.
Enjoy your April Fool's Day!
Peace! Get naked. Enjoy!
