Friday Footnote: The World Naked Bike Ride is pedaling to you!

World Naked Bike Rides (WNBR)!

An opportunity for more than a few scenic views!

We're now about halfway through the Spring season in the Northern Hemisphere and time to make plans for the many World Naked Bike Ride, (WNBR), an annual event that promotes not only clothes-freedom but also bicycle safety and alternatives to combustible energy consumption. The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) isn't one singular event but instead a combination of many bicycle tours held in numerous cities throughout the world on different dates. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the majority of the rides occur during the month of June but there are a few that happen as late as September and October of each year. 

In the Southern Hemisphere, it is now late Autumn and most of the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) observances there happen during their summer, about six months from now. It is possible, in theory, to globe-trot to a bare cycling event throughout the entire year! 

The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is a clothing-optional bike ride where participants plan, meet and ride together through human-powered transport (cycling, skateboarding, inline skating, jogging and running) to "deliver a vision of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world." The concept of the event is to raise awareness of bicycling safety and cyclists rights, raise awareness of the harmful effects of our global dependence on fossil-fuels and to raise awareness of the cultures of naturism/nudism.   

In short, the WNBR bridges the bicycling, environmental and nudity advocacy movements into one major international and multicultural celebration of humanity and the natural world. 

The WNBR is more than simply a participant-event. There are thousands of spectators who attend the rides to show their support for the causes espoused as well as the many riders. The local rides often feature entertainment, vendors as well as exhibitors of local and regional organizations related to energy sustainability, bicycling safety and nudity. Each celebration assumes a vibrant and unique "life of its own." 

A note for Same Gender Loving people and Naturists/Nudists

Although the WNBR isn't an exclusive same gender loving event, the vast majority of local rides are indeed gay-friendly and supportive of GLBT participation. Many of the volunteer coordinators for the local rides are themselves members of our communities. 

The rides are subject to the laws regarding public nudity within the jurisdictions where they occur. In many of the larger rides, local law enforcement agencies have exempted attendees from restrictions of clothing codes during these events. Everyone is strongly advised to check with law enforcement and ride organizers before appearing completely bare at a local event.
