HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!
In the USA, today is the day that this country honors all those who sacrificed their lives fighting for the freedoms that we all enjoy. Since 1968, this is one of the four national holidays that are observed on a specific Monday instead of their traditional date. An act of Congress determined that Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday in the month of May, annually. This year, that date happens to fall on the traditional one, May 30.
On Memorial Day (observed), at all national cemeteries, the American flag is raised at sunrise to full-staff before being solemnly lowered to the half-staff position in honor of this country's fallen heroes. It remains in that position of tribute until noon when it is again raised to full-staff position for the remainder of the day.
On Memorial Day, U. S. President Barack Obama, accompanied by First Lady Michelle Obama, presents a memorial wreath of flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, This wreath-laying event is symbolic of the entire nation saluting all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the USA.
The graves of all those buried at Arlington National Cemetery are decorated with an American flag prior to this ceremony.
